SPORTS AND FACILITIES
Permanent sports in the centre:
Altitude training environment - 1530m above sea level
Sport facilities: Grass (training) and synthetic athletics tracks;
Astro-turf hockey fields;
Rugby fields (our major sport at the University);
Netball courts;
Tennis courts;
1 high performance sport gymnasium + 2 other general public gymnasiums within walking distance;
Cricket fields
Excellent surroundings for road running and cycling;
We are currently already handling some 1100 international athletes during our summer months (Sept-April).
Some athletes like Jan Zelesny, Mick Hill, Jonathan Edwards and Spanish Soccer Team (2010 FIFA World Cup winners as well as many others regard our facilities and the country-side atmosphere as the best in the world.

Residence number of beds - several at 3 levels: Basic (1 star) can accommodate some 150 athletes (bed only - breakfast elsewherre) 3 Star 2-4 bed units - can accommodate 60 (bed only but with own small kitchen/unit. 4 Star - 80 rooms - 2 bed units (fully equipped - restaurant on ground floor (see website www.nwu.ac.za/sportsvillage) .It has heated swimming pool, lecture hall. coaches meeting room, massage/physio facility - walking distance from HP gymnasium. Apart from that, there are also various guest houses and hotels available in town. Special rates have been negotiated at these facilities.
